Hello fishy folks.
Bolingbrook, IL's Aquarium Adventure (Petland) is running a great
sale.
All fish (fresh and marine too), live plants, and inverts are all 50%
again.
Sadly, their new angels have are sick again. They came in nice, just
like the other 2 batches, but after a week or 2 they come down with
the same illness that I've been seeing and hearing about in chain
stores across the country (US).
I did, however, pick up 5 bunches of compact Amazon plants.
They look lovely in the 75g.
Saturday the 9th they had 2 dealers there. One from Hagen and another
one (forget company name).
The deal was from 11 am to 6 pm you can bring in an old power (HOB)
filter and get a brand new Aquaclear or Aqueon filter of same size (or
as close to it as possible).
They didn't even have to be working filters, and it didn't matter how
old they were. You got to trade it in for a brand new, completely free
one!
I traded in my broken Wisper40 for an Aqueon 30. I didn't care about
10g difference, as it'll run a 20g fry grow out tank.
There was one lady in line that was holding a filter that I swear,
must have been 2- 2 1/2 feet long.
10g filters were the smallest you could trade though. I had brought in
a 1-3 gallon HOB filter that the top had broken off of and they didn't
have one that small. Oh well. No biggy. The thing works fine, it just
doesn't have an attached top anymore.
My daughter fell in love with one of the baby Ball pythons. One of the
workers took it out for to hold.
She was in heaven!
Of course the next Q out of her mouth was "Mom....can I have a ...." I
cut her right off...NO, your father's scared to death of snakes" and
she knows that. Hehe, little stinker.
So off we went with a free filter and 2 bags of plants. = )

There is no angel fish for sale in this area anymore. Local big box
stores get in a good looking batch and they are all dead within a
short period of time. Same for mom and pop LFS's...the angels they
have had for awhile are fine, new shipments die. The thing is two of
the major vendors get their fish from the same source and these two
vendors are also the same vendors that supply Petsmart and Petco here
as well as in other regions, and also the mom and pop stores, so
evidently its a problem with the angel fish in general, not the
stores. The local LFS are starting to use other vendors so we will see
what happens. The main vendor in this region is Sunpets out of
Atlanta.they supply to all petshops...and they also now will not send
out any angles of get any angels in to sell to stores......

I'll have to ask them if the source of their angels is *Sunpets*.
Their angels were good for a while. A few weeks later and they/re all
sick.
One of the older guys working their (a fish breeder himself, and
breeds angels as well), has been warning the younger employees about
cross contamination. He keeps catching them going from tank to tank.
This store doesn't run on one large filtration system like the big box
stores....and for that very reason. Disease and parasites.
However, if the employees are always going from tank to tank with a
net, it's not going to matter one bit. = (
Hopefully they can work out the bugs with their employees.
Thanks for the nice post too. = )
