Folks;
I have two green chromis (green chromii?) in my 55 gal. tank. I'm
considering adding a couple more. Should I expect aggression, or will
the current chromii accept their new tankmates with open fins, or?
Thanks in advance.

Green chromis are aggressive towards each other. We cannot keep them in a
big enough tank to keep the aggression spread out as it would be in the
ocean. I had 8 fish in my four foot set up. When young they interact
spectacularly, but as they mature, the weakest is systematically picked off
until you are left with only one. It may take a year or so for this to fully
happen and s lot of keepers will usually just replace the once that has
died. This in itself will bring out the aggression in the group and the
newcomer will be hounded to submission. Personally I love the fish. How many
more are you thinking of adding? At least three should go in and that way
the aggression should be equally dished out to the newcomers.
Regards
Mark

I had 4 in my 125 gallon. They ran as a school for about a year, but one
eventually died.
A few weeks ago, I bought 3 more, bringing the total up to 6. Four of them are
hanging out together, but the two largest have become solitary. One is behaving
sickly, but I just ran a water change, and that may improve matters.
If you have lots of hidey holes, I think you'll be fine.

I have two green chromis in my tank now, they've been living together
happily for over two years now. There once was a third which
disappeared while I was on vacation. Before I left there were no
signs of aggression between them, they schooled together quite a bit.
I think that possibly the fish weren't fed properly while I was away,
and the third was eaten by my engineer goby.
Thanks for the replies. |

Green Chromis are just too cheap to fool with so just flush the dam
things and be done with it.
