I have had these things...Corals/Anemones growing in my tank and I still
have no idea what they are. They originally came in on live rock, one each
and they have split many times. IMO they are some type of coral. No one
in any of my LFS's can identify them from my descriptions.

They are a soft coral...longish body about an inch, the thickness of a
pencil, that rises up and flowers out with lots of tube-like tendrils that
are rounded at the end and are about a half-inch long and brownish in color.
I have another variety but it's color is a drab yellowish-green. They are
also capable of moving quite a bit.

What's most interesting about these things is that they split, sometimes
into three individual animals.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like aiptaiasa and Majano. Now you just need a mantis shrimp and you
will have hit the trifecta!

It is for sure they are not anemones, especially Aiptaiasa or Majano. They sound like
"Stick Polyps", a type of zooanthid Acrozoanthus .Do they look like these ?

Terry, take a look at this page:

http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/tank/mejano.html

Mine are green, but there are a brown version as well. Do these look similar to
yours?

Marc

Marc Levenson comes through again...Sir, you are correct!!!

Looking back at my description I can see how it might have seemed that I was
describing Aptasia...

If I had my way I would have a tank with nothing but these things in it.
They are hardy, they multiply, and they seem to be very forgiving of the
atrocities that I have committed against my tank. I would also want my tank
loaded with SCUTUS spec.

LONG LIVE ALL LIVE ROCK HITCHHIKERS!

My next post will be a question I've always wanted to ask on this
newsgroup -- Look for it!

Thanks everyone for all your help.
