Anyone have any experience with the ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer?
Also, what exactly does a UV sterilizer do? I heard they work great for
killing bacteria, but they also destroy certain additives like calcium and
iodine. Are they recommended for salt water aquariums with live rock/sand,
corel, and fish?

its way over rated, it depends on what you want to use it on. also some of the optional
addons are less than wonderful

basically it burns with UV light anything that enters into it, except to do its job it
needs a LOW flow, while its desired to have a HIGH flow for a skimmer.

somewhat, parasites also, but somewhat. they kill anything that stays in the light path
long enough, which requires a few things, high power, slow flow and whatever your trying
to kill must go into the unit.

uuh iodine posibly but a streach, calcium not a chance. actually they can collect calcium
from the water giving an apearance of it destrying the calcium, but its not much more than
would attach to a powerhead with a long tube on it

I run them on several tanks but not a reef, nor a FOWLR, they kill coral food

It creates light in the UVC range that kills living things floating by it. What
it kills and how effectivly is determined by how slow the pump flows the water
by it.

Definately NOT on a reef tank!! I personally like UV sterilizers , some
people think they are useless I run a 40 watt on my 120 FO tank running a
mere 600 gph..No deaths or medication in over 4 years...but my personal
favorite bonus..is that it does a damn good job of controllin algae!!
cheers
