Hi
I recently posted the Ph-Up post, relating to how i could save money on a
substitute rather than buying more. The responses were great. I find it
ironic, however, that the very next day i had an accident involving a plate,
the aquarium and a spill on the floor. The result, a cracked badly leaking
aquarium. I had to take the fish out and find a replacement the next day. So
now i have a nice 75 litre tank - twice the size of my last (broken) one
and, here's the ironic part, i think i am going to need a new filter. Talk
about saving money!!!
Now the aquarium is in a large bedroom, and i love my sleep so the quieter
the better. I have a basic sponge filter from my old aquarium that JUST did
the job, but i fear that for an aquarium this size it just wont do.
So, the question is, does anyone have any recommendations for a suitable,
and not expensive filter for me? I live in Melbourne so if anyone down here
knows whats the best then that would be very appreciated.

well first of all keep using the old sponge one for a while even after you
get the new one.
I'd say an Otto pf200 powerhead would do that tank great with/without the
sponge filter (they make a good combo)
jebo 508 water fall could be good if it fits over the lips
and a cannister filter would be the ducks nuts
shame your not further north, coulda kitted ya out

I went to my local aquarium shop and they said that an undergravel filter is
the best thing i could have in the tank. I have one, just not in the tank. I
now have a fine red sand in the new aquarium, and i believe that togethr
with the cycle effect the undergravel filter creates it soon would stop
working. Anyone got an undergravel filter working with sand?
I guess its a bit late for that now anyway. Perhaps in 2 months when i do a
full water change i may stick it in to see how it will work. Anyhoo, i also
remembered that i have an extra sponge filter - i used to have goldfish and
they came with a filter. So i now have two sponge filters in the tank, one
about midway up and the other close to the bottom. Unfortunately the cables
are not long enough for me to put the filters at opposite ends of the
aquarium - where i believe they would be most effective - i always had a
dirty side that a had to clean with a vacuum.
My Angels also showed me some sign that they like their new home. They bred.
However after a few days they ate all the eggs. Awwwell next time.

Cheers
