I sometimes uses these on my ponds or outdoor 720g koi and GF tanks.... what
do you use them for in an aquarium? When I do water changes I run a Diatom
filer to remove all the fines and any algae floating in the water. The
water is left crystal clear.

Where is the price listed? I see no price on that page or the "details"
page. I click on "Add To Cart" to see if there's a price there - and
nothing happens.
Thanks.

The newbie again here - what exactly does this do. I've not read about
one yet so am curious as to its benefits.

There should be a pull down drop box on tha page that you can pick your
model from, where it says step 1.
In answer to your question regarding what it's mostly used for, well, as you
mentioned diatom filters get rid of algae, but UV radiation also gets rid of
pathogens, which keeps the fish much more healthy and keeps diseases from
spreading to the tank.

I run UVC devices in outdoors setups only. Never had problems with
indoor setup as long as good fish keeping practices and such are
followed. I never place a fish in my display tanks without a full QT
period of 4 to 6 weeks........I run all my FW fish through a salt bath
and all my SW fish through a FW bath..Never had so much as a case of
ICH or fungus or any other problems in my indoors tanks. I do my water
changes faithfully. I do not over feed and only feed at 3 to 4 times
a week. Maybe I am lucky but I don't usually have good luck. I just
practice good fish keeping practices. Each tank has its own set of
nets and such and none are cross used unless they are disenfected /
sterilized first and after use.........I normally do not use dechlor
either. I have a few aquariums with power heads in them that keep the
water moving and I Use that water. Usually most any water in those
tanks are going to be at least 10 days to 2 weeks in age......My
outside places where i have fish in preforms etc during the summer (I
keep all my tropicals outside) also use only aged water thats been
circulated. I use 55 gal plastic drums to age it in, and I rarely ever
feed those fish. They spawn just fine anmd do fantastic all by
themselves. I do however like to use UVC on them so I can maintain
crystal clear water. Most preforms are in full sun but some have beach
umbrellas over them, so my use of UV is for algae control, since even
if they are heavily planted dust etc in the country here can invoke an
algae bloom pretty easy.
The thinig iwith a UV device is the bulbs have a lifespan where they
are serviceable. Just because they light up and glow does not mean
they are good. Sometimes the replacement bulbs cost as much or more
than the entire device did, and bulbs may or may not be obtainable
locally. Same for the quartz sleeves inside these units. SOme are easy
to clean others a pain and some are quite expensive to replace if they
get discolored or pitted from minerals in the water. If you in need of
a replacement bulb, look for a sterilizer bulb as is used in labs,
hair saloons etc. much cheaper and they are the same identical bulbs.
However once a hobby like fish is attached tothat same bulb it goes up
about 400% in price. I routinely buy 13 watt UVC bulbs for under $9.00
each.Online they run approx 35-40 bucks each from a aquatics
supply..... |

Gotcha! That is a good price.

Makes sense.
