I've heard that non-iodized salt can be used in fresh-water tanks in place
of sea-salt. Is this true ??

I usually use aquarium salt but have used table salt when I was out. there
is a debate as to weather or not non-iodized or iodized makes a difference I
am more worried about the anti cake ingredients.

Thanks Niki...I can get water softner salt and rock salt down the street at
the hardware store. I'd have to order Sea-Salt or drive 60 miles otherwise.

Thanks again for the reply...-ED

I prefer to add marine salt in my maintenance clients African Cichlid,
livebearer, and goldfish aquariums (and many others). Otherwise water
softener salt works fine. The reason prefer marine salt in many
freshwater aquariums is the other elements such as calcium and
magnesium that are beneficial to many freshwater fish.

Well, i would not put table salt into my aquariums, but thats your choice to
find out the concquences, i do use regular tetracycline 250mg capsules, 1 or
2 caps per 10 gallon , works on may different fish related diseases, also i
would be looking into your water quality, if your having recurring issues
with different diseases. Second make sure u have quarantine tank setup if
you are constantly adding fish, Third and most imporant do not mix other
tank waters into your tanks, ie( Stores friends, clubs etc) This can cause a
myriad of other problems in your tank. Also there is an unspoken rule of
thumb that most people dont know, DONT MIX Goldfish with tropical fish,
Gold fish are dirty fish waste wise , which is a common mistake!
