My little oranda/ryukin, Lefty, has had couple of instances when he/she's shown
little white spots. I've done the bucket to bucket method, using Marycide (sp)
and the spots have gone away, only to return a month or two later. This is the
only fish in a communtiy tank that's had this.
Three days ago, another little white spot appeared just behind his left gill
plate, and I plopped him back into the first bucket...he's not upset by this,
he's used to it. Today, looking at him from above, his left side looked
swollen, when I lifted him out of the water, it looks like the spot is three
times the size, no longer white, but red and slightly ulcerated. I cannot
figure out how to lift his gill plate without hurting him, the swollen edge is
against it. I am forgoing the meds in this bucket, choosing not to do anything
but keep him in clean water until I can figure out what's wrong. I checked the
Puregold site, but none of the descriptions of wounds sounded right.

This is a sickly fish, the one with one eye and no scales, but I've had him for
a while now, and would hate to lose him after all this time.

all ulcers are bacterial. treat the area topically according to treatment on
Puregold. if you have antibiotic food, feed that. otherwise get kanamycin or
kanacin and use that in the water. Ingrid
