I just bought an aquaclear 200. I've taken a close inspection of its media
chamber and noticed you can put 3 pieces of media in it. This is my
question, do all 3 have to submerged in water to be effective? I know the
one on the top will be somewhat exposed and half submerged? Should I say
pancake them together to get them submerged?

Thanks,
Don

Yes, it needs to be submerged. Some people keep bio-max in the top, or a
bag of carbon, so it does not fill the entire space coming out of the
water. I like to use 2 sponges, so the 2nd is about flush with the water
surface. As the sponge fills, the water comes out the top more than the
side. hth
