Does anyone know how long a female blacktail Platy will live? I got my
fish a little over 2 years ago and she's been very healthy and
productive over the years. She was an adult when I bought her (at a fish
store). Today I got up and she was upside down and an hour later she was
dead. I was just wondering about how long these little fish live. I've
had my tank about 2 1/2 years and have had very little problem with
fish. I'm hoping that there's not bigger trouble brewing in the tank.
All other fish look healthy. Thanks for any insight...

Mine live about 3 years. Some a little longer. You can't know how old they
are when you buy them.

I've had platties live 1 year to 4, 2 sounds like an average life.

I now have some species that may outlive me. How is that for a worry?

Sorry to hear about your Platy.
Poster, Dick told you the average lifespan, so as long as your tank is
healthy, it's probably just old age.
You mentioned that all the other fish look healthy.
What size tank is this and what / how many other fish are in it?
Have you checked your water chemistry?
