Hi,
I was wondering if putting pennies in my 10 gallon tank will control or kill
the ich? If so, I am from Canada, what penny year is recommended?

Copper is an absolute killer - don't do it. |

Years ago I had a leech in the tank. The recommended treatment contained
a copper compound. Invertebrates are much more sensitive to copper than
are fish. It killed the leech, and the fish were fine and much better
off without that tankmate. I would not recommend using pennies, though.

Copper remains within the fishs tissue for a long time - accumulating untill
toxic levels. It wil however, kill skin and gill ciliates. One of those copper
pot scrubbers hung in front of your filters outlet works a lot faster than a
handfull of pennies - eather one, you would have to watch the levels of
non-chelated copper........
Salt used as a tonic (one tablespoon per 5 gals.) would do a better job!!!
