Hi everyone,

I'm double posting this here and to RC--I know some people frequent
both and I'm new to the whole overflow-sump thing, so here goes:

1: Oceanic 58RR w/ megaflow, running 1 day, converted from a 10yr old
30 sumpless. The megaflow isn't great at surface skimming 'cause of
the intakes at the bottom and middle. At the top though, the teeth are
only on the front, which creates dead spots on both sides. Can/should
I drill holes on each side just below the water line for improved
drainage there, and will holes work as well as slots?

2: In this kit, the return elbow (the one that connects to the
loc-line) has a hole drilled in it for siphon break. It's an inch
above the waterline in the overflow, so there's a noisy stream of
water shooting out. Is there an easy way to seal that off now that the
tank is running? If so, is it ok to drill anti siphon holes in
loc-line?

3: Return pump is a Mag 7. The vibration noise is unbelievable, even
w/ a mouse pad underneath it. Plumbing is roughly 2 feet of rigid PVC
and 1 1/2 ft of flexible. Any fixes? Also, the flow isn't as much as I
had hoped for. The RC head loss calc said 358 gph, but it doesn't even
feel like that. If I switched to a Mag 9, would there just be that
much more vibration noise? Any different pump suggestions? (I'm of the
"high flow through sump" school of thought)

4: The overflow's pretty quiet, but I'm getting a fair amount of
gurgling where the drain line enters the sump. It's one of those
Oceanic extremely flexible tubes and I've tried raising and lowering
it, adding and removing a filter sock--so far, nothing works. Also,
the water rushing through the hose itself is very loud. Is there any
way to deal with that?

I think that's it for now. Thanks for any help.

Grant
