I am getting some new 96 watt Power compact bulbs. But can decide which blue
bulb to get.
I am going to get the 10000K daylight bulb, because I want a nice white look
(not yellowish)
Suggestions?

03 is true actinic, where 7100K is blue but not quite there. I've been told.
10000K will be crisp white.

So is O3 better for the corals, but more yellow looking than 7100k?

Marc, I suspect that you might be wrong about the 10000K. The crisp
white should be 5500K-6500K (10000K will be blue...)
BTW, when referring to bulbs (no idea what kind of bulbs, but I suspect
flourecents) what does 50/50 mean? Or is that just a split? (50%
white, 50% blue/03...)

That's what threw me initially -- if a 7100K was blue, then how could a
10KK be white? Oh, well. Thanks for the info, Mr. Freek. :-p
(Really, how often do you get a chance to call someone Mr. Freak (or Mr.
Freek)? )
Anyone about what 50/50 means?

I believe Marc to be correct a 10,000K bulb (PC) will give you a true white
with a hint of blue
6500K is yellow white IMO.
03 true actinic are really a violet color not blue, they make the corals
more flourescent than the blue bulbs they peak at the 420-450 nm range and
do not have any other large spikes in the spectrum. Whereas a 7100K blue
bulb will peak somewhere in the 450-480nm range with other peaks in the
red/green spectrum. For coral care they are both acceptable. the drawback to
a true 03 is light output the blue bulbs offer more lumens per watt than the
true actinic 03's. by the same token a 10,000K will giove you more lumens
than the other two bulbs mentioned, and a 6500K will give you the most of
all of them (while still good for coral growth. The more blue the bulb the
less light you get.
all in all, buy the bulb that looks best to you visually as the kelvin
rating in the aquarium industry is a marketing gimmick and really does not
have much to do with light output in reality, I mean how does a 7100K have
so much more blue than a 10,000K dosen't really translate to real terms if
you know what I mean.
I always use 03 actinics because the reason I use blue bulbs anyway is to
get the flourescent action on my corals and the 03's do it best IMO.
