Hello all,
Happy New year! My name is David Keith, I'm a new owner of 4 8"
oscars. My wife in a total surprise move bought, with my Borhter in
law, 3 tanks for me with fish! A 30 Gal bowfront, a 40 Gal with a
stand and a 10 gallon treatment tank. I was so surprised! I've been
doing freshwater tropicals for about 2 years. I recently turned to
cichlids and sadly lost a beautiful Electric Yellow the other day, but
this makes up for it. I'm new to oscars, though I'm such a fish nut I
just happen to have Pronek's book I bought a year ago.
I'm writing because one of oscars has developed due to shock small
patchy white spots. Apprx .5 cm wide and looks like thin gel. I new
they'd all suffer some shock, they were moved from 4 hours away, but I
got them back into there tanks quickly with no casualties, so far. I
don't think it's Ich, and I've only had a case of Ich once in 2 years
if you can believe it. He also has a cloudy Eye, as if a cataract,
though it may be this same stuff over his eye. The other is fine.
I'd apreciate any suggestions. I've read over the creature of this
group's site, and though I cannot remember his name I am much
impressed! Thank you for such a resource. Good luck all and I hope I
can be a part of the Oscar Anonomous community.
David

Hey Dave... try looking over here as well...

rec.aquaria.freshwater.cichlids

Sounds like perhaps a bacterial infection caused by the stress.. There was
a list somewheres dealing with what you described.. If you do post over at
the other group, your more than likely going to get a response very
quickly..

Timmer...
