New Tank - Questions

Ok I went out on the weekend to replace my 10(uk) Gallon tank housing
my two black moors, and I went a bit overboard. I've bought a
60(uk) gallon tank (A Juwel Rio 240). I have a few questions though

1) It states that I should not use an airstones, here is the exact
statement:
The use of additional air stones or air lines is not necessary with
the Juwel Aquariums. If an air stone is used, this should always be
placed in the middle of the aquarium. Capillary leaks resulting from
the use of these items will not be accepted as a fault the aquarium.

What is a capillary leak?

2) I bought some Juwel background that are attached to the back of
the tank using silicone glue. Are these ok?

I have a couple of Juwel aquariums and use airstones in both of them. I
don't quite know what a capillary leak is (perhaps like a hairline crack in
the glass?), but I reckon they're just covering themselves and trying to
persuade you to buy one of their air venturi systems instead! I don't see
how using an airstone in one of them is any different to using one in any
other tank! I can understand the idea of placing it in the centre of the
tank as this way it doesn't disrupt the flow of the water from the powerhead
but I reckon if you want an airstone get one! They do say they are not
necessary but I found that my goldies perked up as soon as I put one into my
big tank.
I didn't actually buy the background but I should think that would be fine
as long as you're using aquatic silicone to stick it. I was worried that if
it started peeling off then i would need to drain the whole tnka to fix it
so just stuck some background on the back of the tank with cellotape
instead. It actually slots into the frame of the tnka so stays there rpetty
well.
Just a word of warning about the Juwels though - I've got fairly large
goldfish in mine and found that the powerhead wasn't nearly powerful enough
to keep the water nice and clear, even with 2 30% changes a week , although
my water parameters are fine. I've just added a fluval as well and the water
looks much nicer.

Shows what I know. I thought the background pictures were supposed to go on
the back of the tank, on the outside. I have one on my smaller tank, but
not the bigger ones.

Hi, a capillary leak/creep is where water seeps over the rim of the
fish tank and down the back, you would probably not notice it as it
would be a very small amount but enough to make you think the tank is
leaking when you notice the water underneath the front of the aquarium.
Using air stones can make this problem worse especially if the air
stones are at the back of the aquarium. hope this answers your
question.
