Hi Everyone,
I have a single SAE in a 25 gallon tank with some cardinal tetras,
cherry barbs, a couple of gourami, a couple of pencilfish, rummy-nosed
tetras and a bristle-nosed plec. That tank is pretty much fully stocked
so that's why I only had one SAE. He (?) seems fine but doesn't eat much
algae. He usually schools with my pencilfish, who are the remains of a
bigger school.

The water in that tank is fairly low pH (considering the liquid chalk I
get coming out of the tank) at about pH 6.0 (kept there by a
considerable quantity of bogwood and peat), KH 14ish and the tank is
quite heavily planted (although not so heavily planted as it was, due to
a snail infestation earlier this year).

My other tank is 30 gallons and contains 4 mollies (1 is pregnant), 8
male guppies, a small pearl gourami (put there when the tank was cycling
as I thought it was about to die, but then recovered, although it's
never grown full-size) and a herd of golden apple snails, waiting to be
sold at the LFS. It is also moderately planted. The water in that tank
is pH 7.5, KH around 21 and I haven't added any salt because of the
snails and also because my mollies were bred in fresh water.

I was thinking of transferring my SAE to that tank and buying him a
companion or two at the LFS. Ideas/opinions?

Also, once the snails have gone to their new home, would it be OK to add
salt to the water? Would the gourami cope and how about the SAEs?
