I have two small African Clawed Frogs in a 1 gallon (maybe very
slightly bigger) tank. Also contains an Amazon Sword. I'm looking
for suggestions for tank mates. I had a few ghost shrimp in there,
but as the frogs got bigger, the shrimp didn't. I don't care
necessarily that it has to be fish, perhaps some kind of Snail.
Suggestions??

Also, the tank has a piece that goes on the bottom of the tank and
plastic pipe coming up. I guess to make the gravel act as a filter of
a sort. I placed a small amount of activated charcoal in the plastic
pipe between two pieces of "floss." I also tried putting the
Activated char. under the plastic piece with a small measure of
success (ie. the A.C didn't get EVERYWHERE.) Is this worth messing
with? Or should I just change a small amount of the water daily and
forget about the A.C??

Suggestions?

Thanks

I don't think you should risk putting anything else in that tank. It
sounds like you're not using much in the way of any filtration, so
the tank's ability to support the critters is quite weak,
particularly at only 1 gallon.

I've always viewed carbon (activated charcoal) as a medication. I
only use it when something indicates a need. (smelly water etc) That
pipe coming up should be attached to a plastic plate under the
gravel. Hook an air pump to the pipe. The water will circulate
through the gravel turning the gravel into a weal biological filter.
I would recommend getting a small hang on tank filter.

I have one of those tanks with 2 goldfish in it. We've had great
success with them, they've been with us about a year now and they are
feeder fish too!. Use the tube and put an airline in it with an air
stone. I only change some water out of it once a week. I wouldn't
put anything else in that small of a tank.

Yep, that sounds like ACFs to me. They get a lot bigger and live a lot
longer. A 10 gallon is a good start but I suspect you'll have to
upgrade again in the future.

Great, I'm sure the guy said they wouldn't get much bigger when he
sold them to me. Probably trying to get me to buy another tank.

A bigger tank? More money? I should have just stuck with the ghost
shrimp.

These ACFs, are they edible?
Failing that, if they get too big I guess they can get fed to my pet
Cat Fish.

Please, no flames. Just a little levity is all I'm trying for.
