none. fish can deal with just getting ambient light. the lights we add are
for us.

How important is it, in a fish only saltwater tank, to turn the lights on
everyday? If important, how long do you suggest having them on everyday?
Right now we have them on about 12-13 hours per day...wasn't sure if that
was overkill, too much, indifferent? Just curious since when we had a
freshwater tank, there were days a time the lights were never on.

Thanks,

Janette

as long as you don't have any life on your LR you don't need lighting in the
tank for FO. some people leave their lights on 24/7 in FO but IMO this
stresses the fish.

Without a somewhat normal cycle of lighting your fish will have
increased stress. I suggest @ least 8 hours of lighting unless you
are getting alot of ambient light from windows and such

i agree with marcus, fish should have some light to be active, light
triggers photo cells in the eyes and kicks on and off the seratonin
prodution. its good to have a daily schedule say 6-8 hrs a day for fish to
be active. they will use this time, if set with ah timer so they can
biologically anticipate it, to do their daily activities like feeding,
playing, fighting for territory, etc..
