I am about to move my Eclipse 37 gallon tank into a new place and am a
little nervous about it's durability since I would be heartbroken if it
leaked after the move and destroyed our new carpet (in it's current location
it would not be the end of the world). Are the Eclipse aquariums generally
long lasting? I have a feeling I am just being ridiculous as the seals are
probably plenty strong, but I just thought I would ask all of you your
thoughts. What sort of stand or platform would you reccommend? I currently
have it on a shelf that will not be coming with us. Sad.

Do any of you have any horror stories of leaking tanks?

Regards,

greg

When we got our 55 gallon tank, (it was a used one) as soon as we got it
half way full of water it started to leak. My husband was able to empty
it without causing to much of a mess on our carpet. In the mean time I
was on my way to the store to pick up some tank sealant. After removing
all the gravel and letting it sit to dry, my husband removed all the
old silicone and re sealed it. He applied the new stuff and used a
rubber glove to smooth the seams and we were able to save the tank. Now
2 months later it is still leak free. My only suggestion is to have
help moving (if you are careful it should not leak) the tank and if it
does leak when ya get it set up, follow the directions on the tube of
sealant. It is sold at your local pet supply store.

One other thing tho. I have my 55 gallon tank sitting on an old
dresser. After pricing a new stand for it we decided to look for other
options. We had this old solid wood dresser that needed the top
re-finished and decided that it would be perfect for the tank and would
match the rest of the decor in our dinning room. So now I have a tank
stand and a place for all my aquarium stuff in one spot. And the other
drawers are used for crafts, crayons and other misc stuff.

Another option if you don't have sturdy solid wood furniture to place it
on is to make a stand for it. Lumber yards have all the stuff you would
need to make a nice tank stand. And they may even have directions for
the project there. Also a local pet store may have building plans for
one or even a used stand they will sell for a lot less than a new one.
Try looking on line for plans too. I seem to remember seeing a site
that had them, just can't remember which one it was. If I see it again
I will post it.
