A fishin' we will go...
19.05.12
It consists of 500 pens of different-sized fish tiger garoupa , siakap , red snapper and golden pompano, among others. The cage culture farm (also known as a marine water floating farm) is one of about 20 situated about a couple of kilometres out to sea. I was part of a media group which had been specially invited to visit a fish farm near Pulau Aman, off the coast of Seberang Prai in mainland Penang, but, even better, I also managed to try one of the seafood restaurants in nearby Simpang Ampat... An expedition to a fish farm ends with a delicious seafood spread. The day started with a short boat ride to the GST Fish Farm from the jetty at Batu Kawan, the women cowering under parasols in a futile effort to protect ourselves from the bright sun which beat down on us mercilessly. Size-wise, they range from minute fry a few weeks old to huge 10-20kg monsters which have been there for years. The men stood up macho-style it was just as well the ride was pretty smooth and there were no sudden jerks, or one of them might have ended up in the water.
