Volunteers Sought for 150th Beach Cleanup Saturday

Volunteers are needed on Saturday morning for the 150th monthly “30-minute Beach Cleanup” to keep the one-mile stretch of sand in Belmont Shore and beyond litter-free. , volunteers are asked to gather at the Granada boat launch (which is where many dogs enter the dog beach) to help clean the beach and rid it of plastic bottles, trash bags, cigarette butts and anything else that doesn't belong there. Now over 10 years later, Rudd is joined by a couple hundred volunteers most clean-up Saturdays, rain or shine, to ensure that the shorefront is as clean and beautiful as possible. The cleanup started in June of 1999, when Justin Rudd asked 12 friends to join him on a sunny Saturday morning to pick up trash that the city couldn’t keep up with. Anyone and everyone can participate as long as they can pick up. Rudd said the age has ranged from 3 to 93 years old, and throughout the years large groups have attended from schools, churches and businesses.
