if i have a fish tank already setup and running, if I get another filter for how long will it take for this filter cycle and the other to work with him?
Also, I have a 55 gallon tank, I have a whisper 60 power filter for it.
I think anyone miss the point of what we are trying to do.
Established tank is already cycled. Bacteria are gravel. You can put a new filter for this tank at any time.
55 gallon has not passed.

What is the purpose of activated carbon in aquarium filters. Could someone please tell me what the real purpose activated carbon in aquarium filters. It does not mean everyone should stop using carbon filters, they serve their purpose and especially for beginners. However, carbon is not only to absorb trace elements organic, but, as inorganic compounds such as metals, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites salts and chemicals verious water. Because carbon will not remove a lot of ammonia. The protective pad will always remove waste bulk, but the carbon has outlived its usefulness. Depending on the number of other compounds are in the tank such as salts, nitrates and nitrites and various chemicals used to adjust the algae, medicines, etc. Although it does remove the bad things, it also eliminates the right things.
