I am trying to raise some discus fish in my tank with a canister filter. My
nitrite level is too high for a while and its not going away. I am wondering
if i got the order of the filter trays correctly. All the way bottom, I have
these black plastic balls with
holes in them - not sure what purpose they serve, but I dont have too many
of them, i have the micro filter foam. Next one up is the bio substrate
(round rings with substrates) and the foam. Next one up is curbon and foam
and then on the top compartment i have this oen kind of rocks i bought from
the same fish store supposedly clean the water even more - the small pievces
of rocks look grayish. I have two layers of micro-cotton filter foam on this
one. Since i bought this tank and accessories from a chinese aquarium place
and it didnt come with any instructions, the guys dont speak english so I
just got some help from a frend who also raises discus in his tank. My
question is did i get the stuff right? My water is crystal clear and I am
extremely happy with the aquarium. But the nitrite level in my tank is not
going down for a month and several of my fishes died. Any help
would be appreciated. thanks.
