I have had it with saltwater. I have 2 saltwater tanks that I have had for a
couple years.I have posted the problems I have had with a recent outbreak of
something.I am now going fresh.Anyway.I am going to breed Oscars in the 125
and as I already have a 55g with oscars in it I know they are VERY messy.I
have a Eheim 2229 wet dry canister filter on the 125 already but I want
another canister filter to add.I cant use power filters on this tank as its
a show tank in the middle of the room viewable from all sides.I was thinking
about another Eheim like one of the Giant series for a 250 gallon tank. I
figure this would be plenty of filtration no matter how messy the Oscars
get.I have 2 emperor 400's on my 55 and they get clogged up every couple of
weeks.What about Filstar,Fluval,and magnum 350 filters?The eheims are so
expensive. They are nice but I dont have 300 dollars right now to spend. The
magnum 350 is on sale for 90 dollars. What do you guys think?

I have a magnum 350 (cannister) with large goldfish.
My best solution to messiness (intake clogging) was to use a UGF as the
prefilter with my intake in the UGF lift tube. I also use MTS snails to
keep the UGF clean. That seems to be my best solution to messy fish. I
also use java moss to help keep the water ammonia / nitrate free.

I have a Filstar XP3 which is a fine quality (IMO) filter and rated for
tanks up to 175 g. I'm in Canada and they sell around here for about $289.00
taxes included. I ordered this filter last year from Big Al's for $95. U.S
( I think they are a bit cheaper now) and had it shipped to my U.S address
in Florida ($10.00) shipping. Excellent buy, at least for me.

Their shells looks like icecream cones.
